Interview with Benito Mpangi

Hello and hope you are well

My name is Giannis or skg_edi on IG and on this article with collaboration with exclusive_photo_around_world (IG account) & Maria_sotiropoulou_m admin on exclusive we would like to introduce you Benito Mpangi from London who is a street photographer.

We are happy that he accepted our proposal and we hope he inspires you! We will be happy to leave you your impressions!

1) Tell us a few words about yourself so that people know you.

Benito is a London based street photographer who focuses on social realism. He picked up his first camera in 2020, where his artistic journey began.

2) What was it that made you get involved in photography and who was it that inspired you to get more involved?

A few friends from his church spoke of setting up a photography club. During the time of Covid 19, there was a series of lockdowns imposed in London. Londoners were restricted to their homes. This meant life was no longer the same. Struggling to cope with life and depression, Benito turned to photography as a way to feel and be free.

3) What is your biggest goal when it comes to photography? Where do you want to reach?

Benito’s dream is to set up a gallery that will feature photographers from all around the world. Benito hopes in the distant future that he will be of inspiration to all who love and appreciate art.

4) What is your favorite style of photography and why and which technique do you like the most and why?

A style passed down from many generations. Photographing candidly is truly a master's technique. Being able to go unnoticed is to be invisible. It is almost like being a ghost in everyday life. The fishing technique is the most used in his walks in London. It makes it easier to frame a scene and disciplines him to be patient. Benito would rather work scenes for many hours than a few seconds.

5) Would you like to share with us three photographers that you get inspired?

Saul Leiter, Fred Herzog and Helen Levitt who he is greatly fond of. It is the way they interact and photograph people that always intrigues him.

6) What would you like to say to someone who is just starting photography, what first advice would you give?

Reflect on your life asking yourself what life have I lived? Who have I met? Where have I been? Our lives are not always positive but a mixture of emotions and experiences. When starting in photography it is difficult to know what exactly to focus on. Benito believes it is important to think about our lives. To help unlock our voice and guide us in our journey.

We are very happy to have met Benito even through instagram and we are happy that he accepted our offer and be part of community.

STAY TUNED
